Hi Listeners! Follow Your Passions Is BS According to today’s guest, Billy Lahr, an Intentional Living and Mindfulness Coach, Former Educator and Certified Trainer. Billy shares his own story of depression, burnout and suicidal ideation while in his teaching career. His travels around the world helped him find his purpose and he now has courses and coaching to help others do the same!

Nothing happens by accident. There are no coincidences. A clear-cut journey has been mapped out, but the path is never quite as clear.  There are times when you will question if what you’re doing in your life is truly in alignment with who you are as a person. Pay close attention to this.  It’s your beacon attempting to put you back on the right path according to your purpose and journey.  That is one part of finding success in this life and the other is living intentionally and being present in the moment of each and every iteration of your life…

Brian sits down with Billy Lahr, a former Educator and current host of the Mindful Midlife Crisis Podcast. Billy’s story is a testament to the power of self-reflection, personal growth, and the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment.

After many years in education, Billy lost interest in working with teenagers and the issues he experienced soured his view of education. Instead, he realized the importance of investing time and energy into things that reciprocate joy and happiness, leading him to question his career path.

Billy Lahr spent 21 years as an educator but became disenfranchised the last half due to budding mental health concerns and a lack of job satisfaction.  In 2021, Billy left his job as dean of students in order to travel the world in search of more meaningful life experiences.  Since then, he’s been focused on teaching others how to navigate their own midlife crisis with more curiosity, openness, compassion, and awareness through the use of mindfulness meditation as well as practical and intentional daily routines that focus on consistency and discipline through his introductory Reflect–Learn–Grow mindfulness program…

The mindful journey is about being conscious of how we live in each moment, and yet, most of the time, we actively seek to keep ourselves in distracted with busy stuff and routines. What if there was no routine?

My guest on the show is Billy Lahr from Minnesota, who grew up on a farm with no interest in farming. Billy did college with the idea of becoming a computer programmer and, by accident, gravitated toward teaching…

Do you know what it feels like to be living in your purpose?

Sometimes how you express your purpose in life can shift, especially as you age.

Our guest today talked about feeling burnt out and feeling unappreciated in a career that met his definition of purpose and his way of adding value for years. So what happens when it is time to shift? You can hear the excitement and energy in his voice when he explains he started his podcast because he, “…wanted to create a platform that gave space to people who wanted to share their expertise and their life experiences in order to help people navigate the complexities and possibilities of life’s second half.” We also touch on the challenges of talking about Mental Health for men, the importance of social connection and much more…

It’s always fun to have another midlife podcaster on the show. Today, I’m joined by Billy Lahr, co-host of Mindful Midlife Crisis and co-creator of the Reflect, Learn, Grow course. We cover a lot of ground in this show as Billy shares:

* How cultivating a mindfulness practice changed and saved his life.

* Mental health, the danger of isolation, and suicide rates of midlife men…

This conversation was so refreshing to have. Billy talks about how it is okay not to have a plan with your life but be intentional on everything that you do. Much like leadership, we can have many skills and abilities and it is up to us to create a path that is conducive not only to us but to our team. We also talk about how taking care of ourselves is not selfish but selfless. We need to start taking care of ourselves first so we can take care of our team. Do you want to know more about our conversation? Listen up!

From the moment I met Billy Lahr, I knew he would be someone I’d want to stay in touch with. I wish he lived locally so we could hang out together because he is inspiring, smart, and hilarious. I’m so happy to have him as a guest on today’s show.

He was home in the States when we recorded this, but as you’ll hear, he’s gone back to live in Korea again this month. In this one, we’re talking about finding and settling into a sense of clarity, living and lingering in the gray area of life, and Billy’s strong stance on the phrase “everything happens for a reason.”
